Dog Leash Laws on the Beach
Dog Leash Laws on the Beach
Currently, City Code 6-5. - Animals on Beach and Adjacent Areas allows dogs on any city beach off of their leash and under control of the owner. The only exceptions are from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During this time frame:
- Dogs are not allowed on the beach from Rudee Inlet to 42nd Street.
- Dogs are not allowed on all other beaches from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
With double-digit exposures (bites/scratches) by dogs off leash the last two years and complaints from citizens for dogs not under control, a proposed code change would require all dogs to be leashed at all times when on any city beach as they are anywhere else in the city.
The feedback from this survey will be used in considering a proposed change to City Code Section 6-5. - Animals on the Beach and Adjacent Areas, for the City Council's consideration. The proposed change would require all dogs to be leashed on City beaches at all times. Other restrictions in the code would remain unaffected.
